Hi

Eric and I are entering this.

I know it has been basically poo-poo'd by a lot of people here, but we are entering anyway, and will let you know how it goes.

Cheers.

We will have a secret weapon for this event. Soon as the friggin Japanese customs lets it through!

I teamed up with two of my colleagues in my workplace, sorry TCC:warau:

I guess I'll be the starting rider in my team, and my major concern is how to keep away from being involved in a nasty crash.

If Eugen is in .. I just may have to polish off my cleats ...

Do you think it will make it in time?
I was thinking we could try to put the axe of Thor on it from my Felt if the fork stem is still long enough.

I ran the course yesterday and saw a lot of other guys prepping for it. That place gets a lot of wind from the arakawa which I favor because I can push through the wind pretty well.

Looks like it! Gonna be busy tomorrow - need the donor bike back :)

Where is the race at? Is there anywhere you can watch?

That is right in my neighbourhood.

What is an open course? battling it out with random mama charis and joggers on the track?

Is there a start and finish time?

Good luck! To all of you racing!

Eric, just use it as a warm up for Saiko...no need to bust yourself...even hang at the back of the pack or just behind it and TT if you think it's too dangerous.

These kinds of races have some very 'green' riders.

Just got home.

Had a good time!

Didn't win or anything, but not bothered.

Some highlights;

-I felt pretty fast today. Eric was fast round too.

-The inclusion of non-road bikes was a mistake

-Organisation of location was dumb; no obvious way to walk in and out of the pits, that didn't include climbing over fences.

-There were a couple of fast packs burning round, but these seemed to break up a lot, due to the slower non-road bikes on the course, and the members of the packs also seemed to change constantly. I would be riding in a pack, then we would hit a group of slower riders, and the pack would split up, losing it's dynamic, and throwing some riders off the back. This meant I was spending a lot of time having to guess which part of the pack to follow when we hit these problems. All part of the game, I suppose, but it was a bit annoying.

-I have no idea where we came, but I will try to find out.

-Eric had a puncture, Tim phoned me to get me to come round and take over. The staff in the pits were not too happy about that, but whatever. This set us back a bit, and meant that I had to finish more of the race than I expected, but it all goes to making one a tough guy.

-I didn't see any crashes, apart from some guy dressed in cosplay, with his headphones trailing behind him and getting tangled in his wheel (really).

-People seemed pretty friendly; I linked up with a guy on my second time out, and we took it in turns pulling eachother round the course.

Went there to support 'Team TCC/Y's/WTF' - was pretty cool. This would have been a great op for pure cosplay entry. Surprised I didn't see any 'replica' teams out there - especially BMC / Cadel masks - given its halloween and all - but oh well - aside from the very anime scrapper enthusiasts, Japanese haven't quite caught onto the 'fun' aspects of these type of free-for-all events. We did get to test fly the GS Astuto 'Knight Rider Di2' and it seems quite fit for enduro and other circuit type racers. So - contact either Eric or myself if you need a steed for a race. I'd like to see this bike raced as much as possible so we can get more feedback on how to make better club bikes faster and cheaper.

The flat was a bummer - but I was actually at the location where it occured. Tried to do a quick tub tape and leaf repair - no dice. The tube was bit in too many places. So ripped the clincher off the rim and threw on my tubular spare so at least could limp back to the pits. By the then, the pits were closed and we were sure Owen was ready to kill us at this point having had to ride the last long leg.

But all is well that ends well. No crashes, beautiful day and fun to see all the bike porn and get some few km of Arakawa easy riding in.

BTW - the Knight Rider will be on display at Shibuya Y's if anyone wants to check it out!

Haha, nah, it is OK. I was pretty knackered, but caught up with a nice fast pack and rode it round to the end.

All training! Made riding home, erm, interesting...

I went past you guys lurking around under that tree 3 times, then you were gone.

Although I joined in a non-TCC team this time, it's always nice to see you guys.
Owen, Eric, it was so nice to see you "in action", good effort! Too bad about the flat tyre.
Tim, I always enjoy myself chatting with you about bikes or anything. That Radac we saw was a nicely maintained machine with all original parts.:)

And to all of you who couldn't come, guess who showed up. Someone who failed to wake up in time for the Hotaka training.:p

Today was a great day for riding! First race with the new race bike! Damn that bike is fast! Its a full carbon aerodynamic beast! I was able to keep up with the pro tour riders the whole time I was out there until I got a flat tire (>_<) That flat tire knocked me out of the race and poor owen had to finish it up. Sorry mate! but it was great practice for the race at lake Saiko in 2 weeks. That bike made a 35k/m pace feel like a slow warm up pace and the New Elctronic Di2 ultegra components made the bike so smooth!

Guys it was great to see you all out there today! Owen, you get the gold medal for sticking it out to the bitter end.

I'll get some better tires and tubes ordered tomorrow so there won't be any mishaps at the next race!

and not a single picture....?
I had to work.... :(

Not Bad!!!! Owen and I got 40th place, 4 laps down of the leader and we averaged 34km/h! I am very pleased despite the fact I had a flat. Great job Owen, we did really well because of you! Next time, I'll use better tyres and tubes so we can be closer to being on the pace!
