Has anyone here ever built their own bike. Designed it and welded it? Or has anyone been to a frame building class like Yamaguchi's in Colorado?

I would love to know what you thought of it. Was it worth the time and effort? How long did it take? Did you have a lot of welding experience prior to doing it?

thanks

Not road bikes, but did a lot of stuff with BMX.

Designed and helped build a few frames around the turn of the century.

Mostly doing modifications on existing frames to make them stronger; adding material to the drop-outs of racing bike to make them more street resistant, etc.

We didn't have access to high quality lathes, so BB and Headtubes we usually cannibalised from old snapped frames that were donated.

My mate Stewart is a Rolls Royce certified welder, and did most of the welding.
