There are some people who claim to not be fans of early mornings but consistently schedule ride starts in the middle of nowhere at pathological o'clock.

Then there's Half-fast: We let you finish drinking the night before, before starting our rides. Usually.

TWO cherry blossom rides this weekend, through some beautiful bloomin’ areas.

Forecast (right now) is for 17 degrees Saturday and 14 Sunday (and a little rain blip just showed up for Sunday, so we’ll play that one by ear). ress warmly and bring along an extra layer, as we’ll be stopping for extended periods.

Saturday Tama/Oi Futo

On Saturday we’ll do a two-tier ride in order to maximise participation.

(1) An intermediate group, led by me, will leave the Grand Hyatt in Roppongi Hills at >>> 10:00 a.m. <<< Note early start time. This group will do a regular Tama River loop, minus the beach at Jonan Jima, and wind up at Oi Futo Central Park at about 12:30. Distance: less than 50km.
Alternate rendezvous points: KFC in Ebisu @ 10:30, Intersection of Kan-Nana and Komazawa-Dori @ 10:45, Komazawa Park @ 11:00, bridge at Futako-Tamagawa (Kanagawa side) @ 11:20, Gas Bashi @ 11:45 or 12:00. Please contact Don if one of these meeting spots applies to you.

(2) Then Sal will depart from the Hyatt with a group of beginners at 11:00, and the two groups will meet up at the park. Distance: 25 kilometres round trip.

Our destination is the place with the two stadiums that we pass through on the way back from Jonan Jima. The spot with all the trees just before we exit the park. There’s a convenience store across the street where we can stock up on beer and shacks. You can always bring along a dish to share. Or a decent bottle of wine. Bring something to sit on. We should be back by 3:00 or 4:00.

Sunday Arakawa Loop

Sunday’s ride will be an abbreviated Arakawa loop with a stop to appreciate the fleeting nature of life at Komatsugawa Park (supermarket lunch) and then a wondrous blossom-filled path back to town along the canals. Leave the Hyatt at 11:00. Probably about 50km. Back by 3:00 or 4:00. If we're not there on Sunday morning it's because the weather forecast is bad. Get over it.

I'm in for at least the first part of the ride tomorrow. I could do with a gentle spin. Any advice on how to get there from Asakusa.
