I'll be in Tokyo next week and I'm looking for vintage steel shops, from the ones carrying high-end campy stuff to the ones where I can buy hard to find Suntour and Dia Compe odds and ends, such as the Gran Compe canti brakes. To that effect:

  • What's your favorite must-see vintage shop, and where is it located? I’ll be coming from the north so if you know of a good place in Sendai that would work too.
  • Does anybody know where the Honjo fender folks hid their factory? I have been trying to google them up for over an hour without any luck.
  • Are there any bike races going on next week? My daughter would like to see one.

So far I found Hasegawa Jitensha Shōkai (lots of old stuff), Kalavinka (whose waiting list will save me from doing something stupid), Toei, Kiyo Miyazawa shop, and across the road from that last one Ota bicycles.

should show you the location but I'm not sure if you'll be able to see anything except Skytree.

Most races are outside the greater Tokyo area. Most events listed are MTB or long run events

sorry can't help with much else. Hopefully others can.

Though I've gawped into Kalavinka's show window (on my way to/from a camera shop), I've never entered -- and it's been some time since I've even gawped. So I'm not a reliable source on Kalavinka; however, I don't think the company sells vintage parts.

If you're interested in a made-to-order steel frame and are coming via Sendai, you're in luck: Amuna (AMVNA). There are links for Amuna, and there's also other stuff that might interest you, in this recent thread.

Ok, got the Sendai shop on my hit list, thanks a lot. Also Cycles Yokoo and Amanda sports, which are close enough that I could walk there, thanks for those too.
