Hi, I am hoping to draw on the vast expertise of TCC!

I am currently working on my new project for this year, namely building up a 1985 Raleigh Panasonic team frame to ride in this year's L'Eiyu (L'Eroica) in May. I have decided on the lovely, angular Campagnolo Victory for the build, having pieced together the groupset over the past few months.

My question is, can I use a modern, cartridge BB with the vintage cranks? I really don't want to go down the route of buying an old cup and bearing BB as I don't have the tools to install it and would really like the 'install it and leave it' simplicity of the modern BBs. This is the spec of the Victory cranks:

The spindle length is listed as 109mm on the spec sheet. I have looked high and low, but I cannot find a sealed cartridge BB with 109mm ISO. The closest thing I have found is the Campagnolo Centaur BB, which seems to be their legacy BB for older Campag parts. It has a 111mm ISO spindle:

Will the 2mm of extra length cause me any major problems on the chainline? Any other problems you can envisage me having with this set-up?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Surely the person who finshed L'Eroica with three broken spokes last year can handle riding with a chainline 2mm off!
I have a crank that is slightly outboard for similar reasons. The only noticeable problem with it is that the front derailleur doesn't really like to swing out that far, but it more or less works.

Sorry for only just getting back to you, but thanks for the info. I'll order the BB and see what happens. Like you say, it can't be worse than last year!

I take it you will be there too?
