Hi, I'm in Tokyo next week and have a couple of spare days. Would like to know where I can find bike shops that deal with road race bikes and kit please? Appreciate any suggestions. Staying at Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo. Thanks Peter

Not quite sure what you're after - are you looking to ride, or purchase?
I'm pretty sure there's a reasonably big Y's Road shop near Shinjuku 3-chome.

Many of us buy online. In Tokyo in particular, prices are high, sizes small. You may get lucky, but be forewarned. Ys road your best bet.

Hi Peter
I'm guessing you are looking for something a little unusual to wear back at home to remind you of your trip to Tokyo and not the usual castelli, Assos etc. brands .

If so, I recommend you have a look at Bonsai Cycle Werks. It's only a small shop and he doesn't have bikes there but he has his own kit which is nice. He also has some bling stuff like Chris King hubs, Enve products etc. He is quite a character, sometimes dressing in a bow tie to build up a wheel set.

It's only a short train ride from Shinjuku, and is actually walkable too. It's in Kita Sando. Whilst in Kita Sando, you can pop to the Rapha shop for a browse and a coffee and then go to Crown Gears which has some nice road bikes and nice wheels.

They also sell some PedalEd clothing which was started by a Japanese guy who now lives in Italy.

I'd also recommend going to NalsimaFrend which carries a reasonable amount of stock

Whilst at NalsimaFrend I would also pop by the Japanese legendary frame builder, Cherubim. They have a showroom near NalsimaFrend and is worth a look.

Hope that helps

One comment regarding sizes: Usually shops only carry frames up to size 54 cm, and many models (especially the lower volume ones) are not available in larger frame sizes. Even if the manufacturers offer 56 cm (and sometimes larger), shops will not have those larger sizes in stock.

And as mentioned before, prices in Japan are usually higher than in Europe at least.
