Does anyone know if cyclists will be allowed to ride across Tokyo's newest white elephant,er,bridge which is due to open Feb.12?

I think they just had an event where they opened it exclusively to cyclists.

Yeah, I heard about that event too.
I was just wondering if it has a dedicated cycling path or will it be like Rainbow Bridge and won't cater to cyclists?

I went to the opening festival on Saturday and rode over the bridge. Nice little event and well-attended. Will post up video and pictures once I've edited it.

That should rule out most all of any potential commuter traffic.... nice.
At the moment the bridge only leads to a huge island of garbage, although by 2016 that is set to become a huge benzene-flavored woodland park - the proposed venue for the proposed 2016 Tokyo Olympics. (Tokyo Sea Forest, motto: "If you build it, they will film porn there".)

Bikes aren't allowed in either of the tunnels leading off the island. So even if we could ride over the bridge we'd have to ride back the same way. Otherwise it would be a nice short-cut across the bay.

So the principal benefit of the bridge is to reduce congestion by garbage & dump trucks on R357 between Kasai and Odaiba.
