What's new

Race The Training Thread

After several weeks of keto riding fully glycogen loaded feels like doping. Hahaha.

I am down to 88 kg or so carb-loaded or about 87 kg depleted.

Another seven kgs down and I'll consider myself to be at a viable race weight.

I keep bouncing off of 91 the wife keeps talking me into CoCo Ichibanya. I would like to see 80 I have not seen that since I was 14.

I've finally lost the 4-4.5kg of the winter beer weight I put on, and my fitness is starting to come together. It's beautiful riding weather at the moment, so its a pleasure to be out there.

Another week, another bunch of training. The structure of the week is similar to previous weeks. Trying to find that nice balance between training stress and recovery.

The usual blog link and cut and paste below.

Cheers, Andy

After climbing 1,800+ meters 3,000 seems like insanity.

Moving in with my fiance's family seems to agree with me, as I've dropped over a kilo of fat and put on three and a half kilos of muscle (although some was probably glycogen and water) in 11 days.

Still working on getting set up to train in the garage...

Congrats on making yourself at home in Japan, I hope you get along nicely with your new family branch. Also nice going on dropping more fat.

The numbers seemed almost too good to be true, so I went to get measured again and I was a kilogram lighter but also a kilogram fatter. So within 100 grams of where I was two weeks ago. Hmmm...

Edit: Apparently hydration level has a massive effect on the accuracy of the scales.

Don't stress out too much. Look at the long-term trends rather than daily data points. If the trend points in the right direction, you are on track.

I'm more bothered by the fact that my power meter is dropping off every ~30 seconds intermittently, lowering my averages... hehehe.

Might need a new bike computer.

I've decided on my next bike.... I just need to figure out how to find a wife-approved way to pay for it.

just go with the gold standard: order it from abroad, and when it's delivered and you pay about 5% in import duties, you can declare that to be the price of the bike as a whole ;)

Also always choose a nondescript bike like a silver titanium or plain black carbon. Then it's easier to sneak a new bike into the house without the wife noticing!

Last week's training blog with a video clip from yesterday's ride.

I wonder if I should invest in a camera. We quite enjoy just taking short vids on the phone. But we could get some more exciting action with a mounted camera...

Anyway, the usual blog link and cut and paste below.

minami sabaishi rindo climb, 2km 10%

there are more than 10 climbs like this in kashiwazaki

often the steep parts are concrete
when the gradient eases
it's back to gravel!
多くの場合は急な所はコンクリートになる
楽になるとまたグラベルへ!

no chance to rest
all you can do is enjoy the view
