I had a great training week last week. Except for my Tuesday VO2max workout, which apparently is one of the hardest TrainerRoad workouts in terms of completion rate. 7 x 3 minutes at 120 % with 3-minute breaks in between. I managed 3 before I had to backpedal, and doubt my FTP. I reduced the intensity to 97 %, which was not enough, I had to take a 5-second breather in the middle of the intervals to finish them. The last interval was just hard, I struggled to keep the power up.
But the rest of the week went perfectly. Even Saturday's workout, which has you do 3 x 2 x 10 minutes with 2 minutes at 95 %, 100 %, 105 %, 100 % and 105 % and then a 1-minute break before you have to do it again. Apparently, this is also one of the harder workouts. Felt relatively easy, especially compared to Tuesday's workout. Yesterday was another day of relative relaxation, 5 x 15 minutes working that sweet, sweet spot (88–92 %).
Tomorrow, I will have another VO2max workout coming up, and I am already bracing for impact. The rest seems fine. My fitness seems on point, my FTP is already higher than my last season's PR (311 W vs. 308 W). I have no reason to doubt that number since finishing Saturday's workout. The only thing missing … are races. I doubt I will race any time soon. The first race in April has already been canceled and I reckon, Japan will be hit with the Covid-19 pandemic like the rest of the world at one point.
