Start: Atami station 8:00AM
End: Atami station (sometime in the afternoon? no idea.)
Pace: Moderate? Depends on who shows up :)

Weather looks decent Saturday, and I've never been to Izu. Atami station is reachable by the non-bullet Tokaido line from Tokyo/Kawasaki.

Route should be all paved roads, and no giant climbs. Open to suggestions. Been told the main Izu Skyline is a moto-fest so trying to avoid that one directly.

Post or PM if interested!

Awwwww man.....I really want to cycle down that way but this route is probably a bit too long for me. I am planning a run down the coast from Odawara at some point soon though.

If I am being honest, the biggest issue is England play the All Blacks @ 17:00. I have to be back and in the pub by 14:30 to get a seat ;) :warau:

@OPPL200 yeah unfortunately it's a bit of a train ride to get out to Izu, wouldn't want to jeopardize RWC viewing :)

Though if you want to do a shorter loop we could start at Atami then split up at some point!

Hei @sean-e,

Would like to join this ride. To get to Atami station from Tokyo station i need to take Tokaido-Sanyo Shinkansen or there is another option?
Checking in google that's the only option available..

Thanks
Hey! There is another option, from Tokyo station you can take the "Tokaido Line Local Numazu" and it will go all the way to Atami, no transfers. There is a 5:45am train leaving from Tokyo station that will arrive at Atami at 7:45. I will take the same line, but will be getting on at Kawasaki station probably. Here is a google link with the stops. Bullet train will also work, but it is more expensive.

Hope to see you on Saturday!

I really like the northwest corner of Izu. Well, I like all of Izu, but the NW corner is special because it's so remote (there's a fair bit with no cell phone reception) and it has the best Fuji views (weather permitting).

I ride the west side of Izu at least twice a year.

Wherever you ride in Izu, it has lots of ups and downs. There simply isn't much flat land, but the views make it worth it, in my opinion!

Panorama from Rt18 near Darumayama in the north central mountains of Izu:

Near Darumayama (Rt 127) in the north central mountains of Izu:

A photograph of a certain cyclist with Darumayama and a Mt Fuji backdrop taken during a 200 km brevet in west Izu served as the inspiration for the forthcoming AJ NishiTokyo cycling jersey (look at the close-up) :)

Enjoy the ride, guys! I will be heading back there for my December "Century a Month".
