Saturday 20th we pitch up at Shin-Osaka absurdly early, like 08.30.

The objective for the day is to reach Koya-san and one of these famous sleep-like-a-monk lodges.

I've never cycled in Osaka. Don't know the city well at all. Arbitrary route:

Can you help me improve it?

I spend a lot of time in Osaka, but unfortunately rarely on the bike.

However, I know that the route you have taken coming out of the station is not allowed for bikes, and I wouldn't really recommend it either. The traffic is very fast over that bridge. It continues as a fly-over for a few km, but you can get off that after the bridge. I would just take the bridge to the east of that bridge.

How about building in the famous Kurigari Toge into your route? The incline is insane, but in the worst case it is walkable :)

Really not a road for cycling; more a road for staying home and avoiding. I would like my friends to remain my friends, and this road is incompatible with that objective :p

Thanks for the tip about the station road, though. I think I remember seeing it from a taxi window.
