Slowly becoming more than just a drawing ...

I don't think I'll actually be riding it until after the summer.

Wow I looked at getting the Rohloff hub when I got my Strong but went for the lighter weight of a simple SS. Can't wait to see the final product. You painting this one black as well?

Yes, black again. I though about red, but in the end I think black is the ultimate 'stealth' colour. I also think black bikes are quite 'cool' in their own way.

My challenge now is to learn about EBB's, and find a way for the man in my LBS to figure out how to instal the Rohloff (which cost over 1000 pounds!).

Carl is having trouble with my back end (so to speak ...), as disk brakes + Rohloff + rack and fender eyelets are a tall order!

EBB is a piece of cake. Check put the Salsa Casserole support pages at Salsa for the Bushnell manual. The Rohloff install aint that tough if you have the bosses. Any chance of getting Carl to weld the disc mounts inboard f the rear triangle to free up room for the other bosses? With the EBB not much merit in having out facing mounting tabs. I would do that differently on mine if I had it to do over again.

That's what he is figuring out now - how to find space for the disc mounts on the chain stays.

I think i might be bending your ears about EBB's and Rohloff hub in the not too distant future!

Blimey - you saw that before I did!

'Torque lever stop' is all Greek to me right now ..... :(

(Got my summer bonus today .... that will make sending the final installment to Carl less painful.)

Frame fin.

Will be posted to me tomorrow, but I'm away for the summer, so this will be an Autumn project.

Well, after a considerable delay (for a considerable number of reasons ...) I finally got round to dropping off the hub and frame to Chiba cycles at the end of December. Not many Rohloff wheels have been built in Japan, so they approached the task with some trepidation ...

Just got word that the wheel has been built, and I'll be dropping off the forks and a bunch of bits today.

I think the only non-black parts of the bike are going to the chain, peddles, seat rails and bolts, oh .... and brake bits and bobs. Dressed in black, I am like a Ninja ...

Awesome looking bike. What cranks are you running on there? Paint was by Spectrum? Have a frame there waiting for color but I can't decide on one basic colour or two tone fade. Anyways ride safe and hope to see you up here in Aomori. More pics in the gallery when you get time please. I'm sure Carl would like to see a pic for his gallery as well.

Bog standard XT cranks. Yes, Spectrum paint.

Been trying to take photos of my own, but gloss black and bright sun are making it pretty hard to get decent shots.

Because of my bad back I have to ride in an upright position > with bars a bit higher than the seat. I am currently trundling around trying to decide how much to have the fork cut. It's amazing how crucial this is for me > a cm too low, and I am a withered pile of flesh after a long ride.

Carl got the fit just right, but we built in a lot of leeway for bar height.

Congrats on the new ride!

Seems like your LBS guy had fun putting it together--the parts you have on there must have presented a different challenge from the usual Shimano road and hybrid builds...

The Rohloff manual is an intimidating beast, even if English is your first language. But a Rohloff build, once you've done it, is relatively easy (he said, not having done it himself!!)

I will encourage him to promote himself as a Rohloff-build specialist, but with the new Shimano IGH hubs, maybe there won't be much demand for Rohloff > especially in Japan.
