I joined the 5th Ride Across Kurobe today.

Saturday is a TT up the Kurobe River.

Sunday is a hillclimb race (which I won't ride unfortunately).

This is a nice event and with the mountains tumbing into the sea, this part of Toyama looks like a great cycling destination. Especially now the new shinkansen line has opened up.

The usual race report below:

One for next year?

That's probably got some elevation, so okay, but Toyama itself is one of the hotter places on this side these days.

Elevation change on the TT is about 1% but the wind coming down the valley is more of a challenge.

The heat is also a factor, 36 degrees yesterday. But I expect it would be high 20s usually at this time of year.

The location is very good. 2 minutes from the highway interchange or new shinkansen station.

I was surprised it was little over an hour from here so I'll likely go back next year too.

I was talking to a rider yesterday, originally from Shibata but now Toyama, who is 82 years old!

So no excuses for us old timers!

Within spitting distance of Kanazawa too!

Get on it!
