Help Returning parts to Wiggle

Does anyone have any experience returning warranty parts to Wiggle? I ordered a load of stuff from them including a right hand (rear) 105 11 speed shifter. It seems like the shifter is stuck in the highest gear and the lever isn't catching the pawls to let it shift back down again. It's brand new, so I'm pretty sure they'll replace it but I'm wondering if anyone knows how long this usually takes or if I'll likely have to pay to send it back. I ordered it on the Japanese Wiggle but it came from the UK anyway and took quite a while to arrive.

Also, just on the off chance, anyone know a fix for it? It seems like the new 105 shifters have a completely enclosed mechanism (very frustrating), so I'm pretty sure I can't access the pawl levers which seems to be where the problem is. Any advice welcome.

Also, do you think they'll let me return just the right hand shifter? I ordered them as a set.

Can't say anything about Wiggle, but I did have that same problem (if by highest you mean stuck in the biggest cog - i.e. lowest gear) after changing RD cable some 2 year ago. Shifter was 105 5800. The lever was actually accessible from the outside, but you need to have a really good look. This would usually happen when the rubber hood is up. Take a good look at the little lever and you may find the small small clutch that is caught in the rubber hood and not released back, so missing the lever.

I would take it to a good bike shop and ask them to check it. If it is faulty, ask them to send it to Shimano direct. Shimano are excellent at replacing faulty parts and the turn around is usually quick.

Wiggle is a much more drawn out process. Parts are sent to Chiba where they are then sent in bulk back to wiggle. You will have to go through the warranty claim procedure on the website and get a returns number. It's a long process and they'll advise you to buy the part again and wait on the refund.

So yeah, get a bike shop to check it first.

Yes, sorry, you're right about it being stuck on the biggest cog (metaphorically, the cable isn't even in there right now so we're not on any cog). Infact this happened when I was testing the action of the shifter without the cable inside. I'm pretty sure the hood isn't obstructing anything though (I certainly tried lowering the hood and testing it, and manipulating the tiny levers by hand), but I'll check again when I get home. Thanks for the input.

You're right, this is probably the best option. Any recs on the bike shop? Preferably somewhat English speaking. I feel like this might be hard to explain in Japanese without a little studying beforehand. 日本語ぺらぺらじゃない!

I'll check again when I get home.
check if this little bugger gets engaged or is somehow disabled - out of the way. if this is it, you can buy me some snacks/drink on a ride sometime. if it doesn't solve it it's beyond me - go to the shop as suggested

Unfortunately this little guy is free to move as he pleases, he's just not doing anything useful with his freedom of movement

OK, then it's no use. I gave it my best :) Totally reminded me of that time when I had absolutely no idea why it's not working all of a sudden. But it's a different thing for you apparently

Yeah, I really really want it to be something simple like that. I nice little "Aha!" moment, but I don't think I'm going to get it. Thanks for your help.

Is the cable frayed? Or were you testing the shifter without a cable?

Cable is okay. I tested it without initially, which is when the issue arose and then thought I'd try putting the cable in to see if I could use the cable to get it moving. No luck.

If anyone is interested to see the problem, I did manage to get to the mechanism in the end and have a look (unlike the old 105 shifters, you access the mechanism from underneath instead of from above)

As I suspected there's a tiny arm that isn't catching on the pawls. Maybe there's a spring broken or maybe it's just not the right shape. When I push down on the arm it shifts.

I took this video

It's still a warranty job, but somehow being able to see what's wrong makes me feel better.
