Quick Q. Does this bag do the trick for a flight to Kyushu?

Once linked to here, I would trust this:

And come on..., taking the racks off can't be all that much of a chore...!

on edit: However, that are different kinds of planes here on domestic routes. That box would be accepted easily on some with bigger planes, etc., but possibly refused on routes with the smaller planes.

I'm starting a tour so I don't want to take racks off.

Any problems, advice, experience?

Should be no problem. I have done it with a similar bike bag many times. Just to be safe, I put the wheels into wheel bags and then inside the bike bag. Of course protect fork and dérailleur. And wrap other parts, but not excessively.

I actually think that soft bags stand a better chance of getting your bike undamaged to the destination than hard bags. Baggage handlers assume they don't need to be careful with hard bags. But they are generally very careful with what looks fragile.

For the same reason, I have never used a hard suitcase. Always soft. And never any damage.

Safe travels, Ludwig

if I had just the back rack, no worries, would do. But a surly front rack is a pain in the oshiri.

I would rather not :(
