Hi, I'm from Australia and I visit Japan quite often in the last few years.

I'm going to Tokyo again in August 2008 and I'm planning to get a wheelset for my road bike. Mavic Cosmic Carbone Ultimate wheelset.

Does anyone know which bicycle shop I should contact?

Many thanks!

Shops

Many choices actually - where will you be staying in Tokyo ?

Hi Charles,

Wow... many choices? I find it very hard to get a set of Mavic Cosmic Carbone Ultimate in Singapore or Australia.

Emmm... I will be staying at a backpacker in Asakusa. Or I maybe staying for a few nights at my friend's place in Shinjuku.

I just want to make sure they have a set available when I'm there. And of course at the right price.

Thanks!

Also, I would like to add that back in January this year, I went to Kanda and saw a pro bike shop there. It's rather small and they have a good range of bicycle stuffs. I forgot the name of the shop. I was looking for a crankset and their price is quite high. So, I didn't buy anything from the shop. Still, I'm impressed.

Shinjuku

Has a Y's bike branch as does Akasaka.

Would be worth contacting them in advance to get prices and availability.

I can do that for you as I work close to the Akasaka branch. Let me know.

There is also Nalsima in Harajuku.

Either of your destinations will be fine although Shinjuku is definitely closer.

Nalsima, or Asazo

As Charles said, Nalsima will probably have them;
Otherwise, try "Asazo" - quite close to Asakusa (near Ueno)! I was in there last week, and they had both 'clincher'-type & 'tubular'-type.

Quite expensive though...
Around 150,000 - 170,000 yen (A$1,400 - $1,600)... Still, probably a lot cheaper than buying in Oz! T

Thanks for the replies, Charles & YellowGiant.

YellowGiant, there is no clincher version for Mavic Cosmic Carbone Ultimate.

Charles, can you please help me ask for the price and availability? I know it's 2 months away from August. I won't be in Japan until 1 Aug.

Is there any online bicycle shop in Japan? i.e. www.totalcycling.com, www.probikekit.com?

Oops!

Thanks for the replies, Charles & YellowGiant.
YellowGiant, there is no clincher version for Mavic Cosmic Carbone Ultimate.

You're probably right!
I have clinchers', so that's what I looked at most of the time.
Despite my lack of knowledge about brand-name wheels, the "Asazo" shop still has the largest range of high-performance wheels I've seen in any one shop!
Give it a go! T

Wow... Thank you very very much, YellowGiant. I'm sure you know how I feel now. I'm really glad that people are so friendly. And of course, I'm feeling good now because I'm shopping for a new wheelset. ;-)
