SRAM moved pretty quickly on their acquisition of Quarq, turning out what looks like will be a nice piece of kit with their new Red series.

I hope with SRAM's manufacturing experience they can deliver robust and reliable power measurement, at a reasonable price eventually. 2,000USD list at this point seems like they must be planning on making a decent profit with them. Hope this helps to push the prices down rapidly over the next several years.

Maybe it will force Shimano`s hand at last. Can`t believe they can perfect electronic shifting and not a Dura Ace crank with inbuilt power-meter.

You guys could make your own. Glue a couple of strain gauges on the cranks and use a combined voltage wheatstone bridge with low noise amp. Then a AD converter into an Arduino to provide a interface to an F24AP1 transceiver. yes, it should be no problem for a company the size of Shimano to do this - see, in less than 5min and 3 drinks of red wine, here is a basic architecture that will work fine. The only 'gotcha' is measurements between cranks - but - oh! Shimano makes that easy - they have a hollow spindle - so you could route the wiring though / into the center spindle. Actually, all the electronics could probably be stuffed in there as well..

Sounds like the makings of the new GSAstuto power meter!

Surprisingly I built something very similar to this back in the 80's - except it was to do dynamic weight for helicopter hooks. And we didn't have Arduinos - had to use a 68xxxx. But it was fine. The fact is , that this is not so difficult and expensive to do .. so as Sikochi says, why isn't Shimano incorporating (or making) a standardized power meter interface?? With 25yr newer technology - trust me, it's much simpler and less expensive!
