I'm on the lookout for a pair of winter padded waist tights suitable for these cold months - temperature between -4 and 8 degrees or so I guess. I often set out earlyish and my DHB roubaix are a bit cold, though okay once the sun gets up.

Any recommendations for something a bit warmer?

Wiggle etc or Japanese brands are fine.

If you don't mind being slightly less wind efficient you can wear a pair of these over your DHB roubaix. They are designed for cycling (inc buttons or velcro on the bottom of the trousers legs to avoid needing clips) and add a bit of street cred

Not cheap but an alternative

Due to my height and rather wiry nature, these are both a touch too short and too baggy, but they're windproof and lined with microfleece. Think of the extra wind resistance as part of your training routine ;)

Rapha probably makes something (slightly?) better, for a price multiple of 10-15.

Actually, I might stop by the local UQ to see if they have these. A smaller than usual size might be good since it's the crotch area and not the lower leg that needs coverage.

Why don't you try a pair of heattech (uniqlo) long johns under your regular dhb roubaix tights. Might be a little troublesome putting them on but once they are on you shouldn't need to fiddle with them. I would have thought it would be far better than over trousers that would look just plain silly.

Embrace your feminine side and invest in a pair of women's tights to go under your DHB Roubaix's. You won't regret it.

That's exactly what I do. And on days when even that's not enough, I wear long johns *and* briefs under the bib tights.

I 'double bag' on really cold days.
1) Standard bib shorts
2) Then my Bicycle Line thermo tights on top.
3) If its really cold, then I put on a nylon rain trousers, more for wind blocking than anything.
4) You might try some embrocation as well.

Picked these up in size L (khaki) this morning, XL was way too baggy (I usually take an 88, sometimes 91). The shop had stacks of them in a few different spots. Other than trying them on, no use yet, so no idea how durable they'll be as bike gear.

The nylon seems thin, but should block enough wind. Looks would be okay for a casual day at work. It would be nice if they had a water repellant coating, especially around here. Maybe some spray stuff for that.

Went out for some spinning this afternoon trying out a pair of camouflage long john and a leggings underneath. Pretty impressed! "Long John" for the win. Given its a windy afternoon. Just be careful on the right lower leg portion, the chain ring teeth might take a few bite on it.

Bought a jacket at Cosco yesterday. Not bike specific, but very similar to Gore Windstopper fabric and not too flappy. Office friendly, so will use for commuting. ¥3,800
