Does anyone know of any good routes around the Fuji five lakes? In particular, I am thinking of going from Otsuki Station to Kawaguchi Lake. I have plotted a route from Otsuki Station to and around Kawaguchi Lake:

Has anyone done something like this before or recommend another different route? It would be nice to include a hill climb but nothing overly challenging, something similar to or a little more challenging than Takao would be good.

Thanks in advance:)

I plotted out a route last year that would take you around all 5 lakes without traveling on the same roads twice (I think there are a few sections where you have to) I never got to ride it as Im not really in to solo touring rides.

I've done Saiko and Kawaguchiko in 1 day and love the riding there with a passion.

The route you have plotted is not great for biking to be honest. You'll be climbing route 139 which is busy with traffic (see this thread for some discussion)

Once you're at the 5-lakes area it's actually pretty flat between the lakes, other than the climb/descent between Yamanakako at 1000m and Kawaguchiko at 750m. I rode around all five in April.

Generally nice roads, quieter the further west you go.

If you fancy a shorter ride with more climbing I did this route last year

It's very nice but there is a 2km gravel section coming down from 20 turn pass. It's perfectly rideable if you take it easy.

AW.

Thanks Alan for that. I have now mapped the following route taking a smaller road adjacent to the toll road:

This was done based on information from 'Lake Motosu Questions' thread so am assuming a route similar to this has been done by others. Is this route doable? Since these are much smaller roads how easy is it to find one's way?

Thanks!

I haven't ridden the little parallel road next to highway 139, but it looks like it will be OK.
The bridge across Kawaguchiko is a toll bridge, even for bikes, so it's best to go around the eastern shore - only half a km longer and free!

Thanks for the tip!:)
