Hello. Anybody up in the extreme NE of the city? I am at Kameari station, on the Joban/Chiyoda line right between the cycling roads on the Edogawa and Arakawa and getting pretty bored of cycling alone since August. I need some motivation to ride harder, and longer.

When I come down to Tokyo, I usually go through Kawaguchi and into Akabane.

This is pretty close to you, so we could meet up for a ride sometime if you like.

I'm about 5 to 10 minutes from you!

I'm in Takasago, just down Kannana Dori from you.
Trouble is I'm not into racing, more like pottering up and down the Edogawa.
What type of cyclist are you?

What kind of cyclist, indeed.

I'd better be honest and tell you the cyclist I am now... I have been riding up and down the Edogawa and Arakawa for the most part, about 40km at a time. My average speed is not more than 25km/hr at the moment. New baby and the brutal summer set me back from where I'd like to be. Sloth doesn't help either, ha. Quite a fall from the Imperial centuries over a couple of mountain passes I used to do on a crappy hybrid last time I lived here.

I'll never be a sprinter, but I'd like to get into some long rides again, at a decent clip. Maybe some randonneuring.

These would be my regular rides. Here are a few I'd like to do soon. Love to get company for Boso or Miura, too. Anyone up for the levee ride from Kumagaya on the weekend, so long is the wind forecast is not against us?

Don't worry about it mate. We can plod along at any pace you like. It is all good.

I'm your neighbor.

I live in kameari too, near Ario shopping mall.
I usually ride the Arakawa and the Edogawa on weekend.
We can go out for a ride sometimes.:D

Sunday, maybe.

Glad to get so many responses. I'm busy Saturday, but a Sunday ride would be good. Going to have to keep an eye on the forecast, mainly the weather... mainly the wind. I'll post weather on Thursday night. Are more of you interested in a morning, or an afternoon ride?

I am thinking the best place to meet would be on the W side of the Arakawa just as you get off the highway 6 (Mito Kaido) bridge: seems there's two bridges, so the northern of the pair.

Then we can decide where to go. Down the Arakawa and back? Back up the Edogawa? Get a beer at Harvest Moon Brewery?

Weather looks good a 10 a.m. Sunday ride

If you can respond to me, I promise to be at a meeting point for 10 a.m. sharp. I'm 6' tall, all in black, with a green steel road bike (thin tubes).

4km into this route is the southern of the paired highway 6 bridges, where it meets the bike route between the Arakawa and Nakagawa, very near Yotsugi Station. I'd love to give my cell number... but not on a public board.

Please confirm if you can make it for 10. That would be great.

I may be interested. I'm recovering from the flu... so just need to see how it goes.

I suggest reposting in 'unofficial tours' so that others know about it.

Great job organizing straight away. :thumb::thumb:

Thanks to some encouragement I had some people to ride with last weekend, after we organized a ride: https://tokyocycle.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=2397

I am looking to have a regular weekend ride on the east side of the city, and some periodic rides further afield. Something like the Half-Fast group, but based on the Arakawa and Edogawa cycling roads, and not out of central Tokyo (http://halffastcycling.com/mission.html).

The four who joined me last weekend were very nice... but quite a bit stronger than me. I would love to have enough interest to start a 'social group' on this board for rides on the east side, 50-150km, at a 25km pace, where nobody knows how to use a heart rate monitor. Racers will be bored.
