What's new

Today Nov 2019

I have always likes raw steel. So picking paint is hard.
You could do a split paint like this one....

Or something like this with just a clear and decals over the raw...

The 14 yr old is my daughter's classmate. Shit got really real, really quick. Thankfully the young girl is expected to make a full recovery and will have a heck of a scar to show. The ER at the city hospital is a 3 minute drive from her house (but they called an ambulance) and there were cop cars coming from everywhere.

I do feel a touch sad for the lad too......

@kiwisimon those seatstays are something else - I've never seen anything like that! That's a gorgeous bike. Have you thought about a bare metal finish with lacquer? That always looks amazing when accompanied by some expertly applied paint, and it would be a bit of a shame not to show off at least a little bit of that stainless steel.

Edit: Yes, apparently you have. :flip:

@kiwisimon I'm envious. That is a beautiful frame and I do love steel. Kona made this bike, the Roadhouse, and did the lacquer thing. It was like a work of art, IMO. I wanted it soooooo bad but just couldn't justify it at the time. Still love the look.

When will you get the bike?

what a story! poor girl... but it's hard not to feel for the parents of the attacker too. hachinohe is such a small community. is the whole family now gonna be ostracized and basically ran out of town? even the boy that attacked her himself, at 14 yoa, but with impulse to kill random people... what happened there? I'll look through Japanese sources in hope of getting more background, but not holding my breath given the state of media here and in general

Didn't ask and TBH with winter coming I don't really care. Maybe in the new year. But it will be March before it gets a good long ride, unless I go south. Snow forecast to fall tomorrow night.

Not run out of town but I think they will move away. Everyone knows the family so even after rehabilitation there is no way the boy can return here.
Yes I too feel bad for all the parties involved.
The PTA was doing phone messages last night ensuring that all students were getting escorted to school. Word came through before 6am that that was unnecessary. Kids walked off to school but not quite so chipper as they usually aren't. Who wants to go to school during test week right but seeing friends and talking is good at moments like this.

what happened there?
chemical imbalance in the brain, emotional needs not met, who knows but mental health is a fickle thing. I've had bad thoughts before, maybe we all have. Difference is when they become persistent and there appears to be no other outlet for the pressure. Younger folks have less avenues than adults.

this has to be either the best or the worst idea there is. and I'm gonna find out which is it

what in that wall of text should be pertinent to my decision? it is at times amusing to read though, I give it that

Because of the weather and some work commitments couldn't cycle to work Monday through Wednesday and today was my first commute after the MTB... experience? Hahaha

Everything is fine as long as I don't ramp it up too much and breathing gets heavy. But the leg looks like it's better amputated (feels ok tho):

Ouch, that looks painful, @luka
I have a new respect for mountain bikers having seen you guys ride. @bloaker had made it look easy, so I underestimated what was involved.
I haven't got the balls, I'm afraid.
