I have been lurking in this site for quite some time. I finally ordered a bike, Trek Madone 4.7, that is arriving at the end of this month. I have been riding for years in the States and love doing centuries but have been off the bike for at least two-three years now. I want to get back into shape. Or, at least, a less round shape ( Can't see past my gut, have to ask my girlfriend if my shoes are tied, fricken embarrassing). Can someone point me to a long organized race/ride that is coming up in about 3-4 months that I can use as a training goal?

How are the organized races/rides in Japan? Do they have an "I just want to finish" class usually? Are they usually well supported ( closed roads, markers, food stops, SAG wagons, etc..)?

Hi Shant,

For just-for-fun stuff

- You might be interested in checking halffastcycling.com
- Invitations are posted regularly on TCC forum - check them out, but tread carefully, some are pretty challenging.
- If there is a nice and friendly LBS next to you - you could ask there.

For paid (and more organized, with food along the way, proper start and finish lines) rides -

- There is a thread about brevets somewhere on the forum for something more expensive, organized and challenging.
- Personnaly, I can recommend this ride -
http://www.sado-longride.com/ (not quite in Tokyo area, so it's more like a vacation :))

It seems like application for Sado is over.
I can't recommend much, but you could look for a good alternative for example here -

Perhaps, someone else might have a better suggestion

The brevets are cheap compared to the hillclimbs and in my very little experience everyone was really nice with many people in the 'just want to finish' category. However, roads are not closed or marked, so navigating is a big thing.
