I know that saddles are very personal, but my new-to-me mountain bike saddle is continuously giving me saddle sores on my right side. Do you have any recommendations for an XC bike?

I use the following:
WTB Koda: https://www.wtb.com/collections/wide-saddles/products/koda
WTB Volt: https://www.wtb.com/collections/wide-saddles/products/volt
Chromag Trail Master DT: https://chromagbikes.com/collections/saddles/products/saddles-trailmaster-dt-19

The Trailmaster DT puts up with the most abuse and I have it on 3 bikes.
The Koda is shorter and flatter. It is a nice option for change, but I use it on my less aggressive bikes.
The Volt is the 'in the middle' saddle. It was my go to for a LONG time before I moved to the Chromag.

WTB saddles come with different rails and adjust the price accordingly.

What is on the bike? Any idea how old it is? You riding with the same bibs as on the road?

The bike is unpadded, just bare reinforced plastic with holes in it. It is very flexy and especially without chamois it is not a nice feeling. For sure it is super light, but I regularly get a saddle sore on my right butt cheek, always in the same place. Plus, the thing creaks. And yes, I am using the same bibs.

In that case... probably any MTB saddle would ben improvement.

I guess it depends on the budget and lots of other personal factors, but the Specialized Phenom is a really popular choice, and I can wholeheartedly recommend it.
I also like the Bontrager Verse on my road/gravel bike, and they market it as a do it all road + mtb saddle. But it has a wider shape than most MTB saddles, so it might not be optimal for sliding you backside behind the saddle on steep downhill secions.
