Hi, all

Has anyone riden rt.30, which is north of Uenohara (parallel to rt.20)? What it's like?

If you're interesed to explore it this Saturday - how about this small loop?
Wada->Matsuhime(south)->Tsuru->Wada
http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/japan/tokyo/216125142223561660
If rt.30 is not good we'll change to rt.20 after Wada

Also, the descend from Wada(west) on the way back from Matsuhime is not nice (unless you enjoy free falling while sitting on your bike), so we can change the last climb to Kobu tunnel or Odarumi-toge on rt.20 later.

If anyone is interested - meeting is 9.00 on the intersection of rt.61 and rt.521 (Jimba-kaido), the one with traffic light :)

Oooops sorry... yes, you're right, Sergey . Didn't look carefully enough at the map - just saw the mad squiggle and thought that looks a little like Nokogiriyama...

2 discoveries

1) Iriyama pass - 15 km long road connecting route 33 (Musashi-Itsukaichi) and 521 (Wada). Closed for cars from the south, open from the north - beautiful and quiet climb from the south to ~600m. Steep but not crazy-steep. It would be a perferct training loop, but there is a 300 meters long gravel section on the north slope. Awesome view of Tokyo from the top!

There was one special encounter during the descend on the rindo - almost fell out of my saddle, when I saw these guys jamming:

Stopped to listen and make a short video :)

2) Route 30 - 2 lanes, great condition, climbs up to ~700m, never straight and completely devoid of traffic 13 km long ex-route 20 (by the words of a friendly Yamazaki store owner in Uenohara). Nice option to avoid some of the traffic on route 20. Great for TTing!

Very cool views of route 20 and Sagami-ko.

Saw you!

Hi Sergey,
How was your ride today? Saw you zooming down from Kobu Tunnel towards Sagamiko.

Naomi-san and I wanted to do something a bit shorter so we rode this loop

http://www.mapmyride.com/route/japan/tokyo/225125154278061299

which was good fun. Route 76 makes a great descent from 413 Doshi Michi, and has a nice little ice-cream shop which we made full use of :D

Hi Alan,

Yep, I saw you too but wasn't sure until I met face-to-face with Naomi-san further down the road.
I decided not to go to Matsuhime and Tsuru today (it was a wise decision) - my explorations took more time than I expected, and it's still too hot (just thinking about those open roads near the dam was enough to postpone it :))

Bee aware

Unbelievable things happened to me today!

When Alan-san and I rode on Route76 toward Sagami-lake, I saw several wasps and one of them attacked my face, I immediately shook it off safely, actually I thought the crisis had gone at that time:confused:.
But in a second, that evil wasp stung me on my right leg; just inside of the knee even though I didn't stop:eek::eek::eek: I was in panic as I remembered about very nasty allergic reaction to wasp stings during my stay in Houston.
My poor knee started swelling up and being quite sore....While I somehow managed to keep riding until Takao-station where I started:warau:

Anything can happen.....
I hate wasps:mad:

Naomi

Be careful... you should call them Japanese Bees....or something else...

ホワイト・アングロサクソン・プロテスタント

Hope you get better fast.

Iriyama Touge

Sergey,

would it be possible to post a link to a maymyride route or similar for Iriyama Touge? I would be very much interested to test it.

Did you tried already Bijotani, connecting route 20 after Otarumi on the downhill road to Wada 521 before the climbing starts? Gated off on both sides, top at about 600 meters.

Ouch!

Ouch! Sorry to hear about this painful encounter Naomi. The same almost happened to me today as I was along the Higashi Chichibu Green Line...out of one of those ducts in a concrete wall, all of a sudden a big swarm of bees emerged and seemed to follow me...I raced like hell trying to keep my mouth shut...they did not look like semebachi but still it was scary. Have Alan get you some good ointment!

check out the road between 115-130km marks.

Yes, I've been there (Bijotani) once - really pretty, but rough in some places. Met a tanuki there :)
