What's new

Matsuhime Loop . . .

Hi,
I could be interested... well, I mean I'm interested, but a little worried abut the distance...
Anyway, would meeting at Hashimoto (R16/R413) be an option?

Hi Simon . . .

Meeting at Hashimoto is fine. On the return journey, you can also use R16 (shortly after passing Itsukaichi eki) to get back to Hachioji. This will make it around a 160km day for you.

Cheers,

Philip

Thanks Philip. I was looking for a way home, with the aim of trimming a few kms where ever possible :)
Route 16 looks the goods. Cheers!
Question, if you happen to know, can I take R16 down to R173/R160, just where R16 seems to turn into a IC road?

Also, re distance. My longest ride to date is 150 km. But at the end of it, just before I got home, I cramped up rather badly and had to walk parts of the way. The cramps continued throughout the night.
Just wondering if any of you veterans out there know what I could do to help prevent this? Foods? Drinks?

Yes you can, no problem.

You have probably been drinking a lot of water which washes out the bodies electrolytes causing cramp. You should drink sports drink every other drink which replaces the electrolytes and stops the cramp.

Philip

Thanks!...

Ok, then I'm pretty sure I'm in! :D
Please let me know the time to be at Hashimoto (when you know).

... I'll be the one with jugs of Gatorade strapped to my back :)

Saturday 16th August I will ride 230km from Tokyo around the Matsuhime loop:

Let me know if you are interested in suffering with me :D

Cheers,

Philip

Good luck with the ride. We happened to do Matsuhime yesterday, but in the shorter route. Okey-san, Imai-san and myself chose the route heading to Matsuhime via 411. Ome-(411)-Kosuge-(139)-Matsuhime-(139)-Otsuki-(20)-Otarumi-Takao.... We really enjoyed riding down to Otsuki from Matsuhime. To me living in country, it was 150Km. But for other two living in downtown, it should have been over 200Km.

thanks, Minoru Arai

Did someone say "suffering"?

Thanks for posting Philip. I'm in. Let's hope the rain disappears by then.

Simo, hope to see you there, bud!

Deej

Hi Arai-san . . .

How bad was the heat/humidity on the long, long climb up??? I guess the ride down to Otsuki was a great break from the heat

Meeting times . . .

Hi Deej & Simon,

I am looking forward to getting together. I have not been cycling for soooooooooooooo long. I have a race coming up and need to get fit real quick! Thomas and I did this ride earlier in the year and it was hard! I was fit then so this time it will probably kill me. But what doesn't kill us makes us stronger.

Unfortunately Christoph is in Germany so he cannot join us. Where is Thomas? Is he out with Shinobu-san again ;)

Let's get organized - I will depart from Kamiuma at 06:20.

Deej, shall we meet at Seta junction (Kanpachi/R246) at 06:30 as usual or are you bagging it?

We will pass Eda station at 07:00 if anyone else wants to jump in.

Simon, lets meet at Hashimoto at 08:00 - at the 7-11 combini on R413 - 400 meters on the right - after turning into R413 from R16.

Simon, I will PM you my keitai number in case you need to contact me.

Cheers,

Philip

Thanks for the details, Philip. I'll meet you at Seta junction at 6:30. Dang, I wish we had Cristoph to pull us. Thomas, you in, man?

Deej

Would love to join

but off the road for Aug whilst the family is in town. It would be perfect as we are planning for Tamagawa hanabi on Sat evening. If any of you are passing that way in early or mid evening then call me and you are welcome to join our party !!!!

Where is Thomas?

I could be wrong given how much I'd drunk, but if I remember correctly from the wedding party, I think he and Sergey might be in Tohoku this week.

Would also love to join, but am heading to Nagano tonight. Hoping to explore some of those toge's mentioned on the "Love 峠" thread.

Have fun

Lee

Bummer -- I was hoping to ride with my hikling mates again. But it sounds like y'all have your own adventures lined up. Have fun!

Hi Simon . . .

It's a go! If something unforeseen happens tomorrow morning I will give you a call. However, I will be riding even if it rains. Hopefully it will to cool things down a little :D
