Maintenance Help

More maintenance help

I'm upgrading the brake levers on my city bike. I bought the parts I thought I needed online, but something is clearly missing between the lever body and the cable end cap.

Does anyone know what it's called?

They are missing the adjuster barrel for brake cable tension.

I would take them back as they should come with them.

I see where you're coming from. But the tension adjusters in this case are on the brake caliper/drum.

I think it's more that ferrules are missing, as Simon Says.

(No response from the online shop yet to my bitching... maybe they don't work Wednesdays like most LBSes don't.)

Yeha - those take the ferrules and not threaded adjust - peak inside the hole and see if you see any threads. The 'Tech77' DiaCompe and other ones use threaded barrel adjusters. Look identical - btw - except they don't have the 'Reach Adjuster' screw and threaded to accept the barrel adjuster.

Also I've looked on the Dia Compe home page and those brakes are not listed.

So is that button on top, the thumb lock, kind of like a parking brake?

Those are cheap BMX style brakes, and do not come with a barrel adjuster on the lever.

The cable outer just goes straight into them.
