Hello,

I just joined this forum.
I am a road biker living in Tucson AZ. I work at the University of Arizona.
I often take my bike on trips.

You can see my biking homepage here
http://www.u.arizona.edu/~sandiway/bike/

I visit Tokyo regularly, I stay around Chofu. Today is the first time I've heard there is a bike path from near Chofu to the Tama Lake area.

I'm looking for the precise location of the start of the Tamako cycling road (多摩湖自転車道). Can someone pinpoint that for me?

Thanks so much,

Sandiway

Hi Sandiway-san,

Welcome to TCC!:welcome:
This is the rough route of Tamako cycling road (多摩湖自転車道).

Around Tamako is not cycling road, the road is from Tamako to Koganei.
But I recommend you not on your road bike but mama-chari.:warau:

Thanks so much for the google map! Much appreciated.

I guess it's not a good training route. Any ideas on good training routes around the area?

Thanks!

Hello and welcome, Sandiway! Nice work on those brevets. As for training routes in Tokyo, all I can suggest are the highways; I live in Aobadai and 246 is nearby. Once I got comfortable with the idea of riding on it, I found it very useful for trips to Tokyo. There are stoplights every so often, but not as many as more local roads, and the hills tend to be gradual (not sure what grade). Highway 16 running from Yokohama westward is also good, at least from the junction with 246 and onward toward Sagamihara (between 246 and Yokohama it is only single-lane, and not such good-quality asphalt). I am curious as well to hear from others about any well-maintained roads with long stoplight-less stretches.
