Thank You All!
As you know the race is this weekend (Sunday, April 20), and with eight solid training rides under the belt, I feel as prepared as anyone could feel.
All of the rides were memorable for one reason or another (some good; some not so good) but all in all, amazing experiences.
That was a pretty intense 8 weeks!
And probably the most incredible part about all of it was the fantastic weather we had Saturday, after Saturday, after Saturday…. for weeks in a row!
Some highlights:
Awesome views of Fuji… 4 times! KT2, was our first really nice glimpse of Mt.Fuji; from the top of Jukkoku-toge. Then we had some "up close & personal" views of Fuji again for 3 weeks in a row on KT5, KT6 & KT7.
The 20+% slope at Karibazaka on KT4 was also our steepest so far!
That's definitely one we have to do again – And next time, try to finish Deej's "farm loop".
Mikuni-toge (twice). Fair enough, it was a lot easier the second time around after knowing what to expect, but let's not take anything away from what is a seriously tough climb! (It'll be interesting to see if Karibazaka seems easier after another go).
A special thanks:
Last year, I did 7 training-rides for Kusatsu, and I was very thankful to Aaron (Pucci) for being my "stout training partner" at the time. This year though, the "Stout-Training-Partner" award doesn't go to the most participant – Thomas (The current "Most-Miles-Together" award holder) – but to the man who in the last few weeks has pushed me to my absolute limits; by either jumping in front and goading me into trying to catch up, or sitting on my wheel for long stretches daring me to slow down just a fraction, lest he pounce!
Now all I need to do to get my personal best at Kusatsu is look at the field up ahead, and then look for one of 3 things:
1. A bright red jersey!
2. White arm-warmers (should be lots of those).
3. A canary-yellow helmet.
As soon as I see any one of the above, I shall proceed to chase down that Mo'Fo' with all the fury I can muster, and then start looking for the next one! Repeat this process until I get to the top.
Seriously though, Thanks Deej! For pushing me that extra bit each time.
You da MAN!
To all the other Kusatsu-racers who didn't have a chance to make it to any of these rides, I'm confident that you each had your own "Himitsu-Training (secret rides)" out in the hills to get yourselves ready!
See you all this Saturday!
GOOD LUCK TO ALL THE TCC RIDERS!
Travis
