I believe Kashiwazaki is perhaps the gravel capital of Japan.

I've been wanting to do these tours for a few years. I decided to take the plunge.

If you are an experienced gravel rider or a novice, we can cater for you.

Here's the info:

We will have the first Kashiwazaki Gravel Tour on September 10th 2023!
Small groups will be led by a guide.
We will introduce some of Kashiwazaki's wonderful gravel trails!
If there is the demand, we will split into beginner and experienced groups.
Also if there is the demand we will offer short and long courses
As much as possible, we will provide courses to suit riders.

To join the rides you will need a gravel bike, mountain bike or cyclocross bike.
The start and goal is Yume no Mori Park in Kashiwazaki.
Numbers will be limited.
Entry is on a first come first served basis.
Please reserve your place by email!

Come to Kashiwazaki!

Thank you for today's gravel ride!

8 riders enjoyed a wonderful course highlighting the end of winter and the beginning of spring in Niigata.

Riders ranged from experts to beginners. One rider hasn't ridden for 6 months but still completed the course!

Thank you for coming from as far away as Gifu, Aichi and Mie (originally Australia!).

Next month we are planning 2 guide rides on April 14th and 28th. We plan to introduce 2 different courses.

Please check the video below.
And if you are interested, please come to Kashiwazaki!

Andy is this a race or….? Do the beginners get instructions on how to ride the terrain? I assume that there might be certain techniques needed? Or is really not much different than riding pavement?

No it's a guide ride. Yes we teach beginners. It's quite different to riding road, particularly in the equipment you need in terms of disc brakes, tyres, pedals, shoes etc. But like anything it just takes practice.

The feedback is always positive. Many riders say they go to places they wouldn't go alone. They get to experience trails that don't show up on maps and have zero traffic. They like to know what's coming up in terms of dangerous sections etc. We also do quite a bit of prep in terms of getting the courses ready and mapping routes.

But most of all it's just a fun social ride!

Does seem fun! Unfortunately I don't drive and the round trip Shinkansen fare to Nagaoka seems a little rich for me. Maybe if others here want try a road trip I'm up for it.
The highway bus used to be a good deal, they take packed up bikes and the midnight ones can save you on accommodation.

Maybe worth a lóok.

Just signed up for Gravel Rally Stage 1 which is 6 hours from here but closer to Tokyo in Shizuoka.

Is there a direct bus? I did search but maybe I'm not using "outside the box" parameters.
Just asked the kids. Maybe it doesn't exist anymore. You can link up via another bus from Nagaoka apparently.

We have two Gravel Tours this month.

Sunday April 14th and Sunday April 28th.

The start is 8am at Yume no Mori Park in Kashiwazaki.

If you are interested, give me a shout.
