Hello to everyone at TCC,
My name is Nicholas Riddle and my wife, Janie, and I are coming to Tokyo in April. We've never been to Japan before, so this will be an adventure for us. We live in Santa Cruz, California. My wife rides her bike to commute and I ride everyday.
If anyone has suggestions for us, we would be happy to read them. I'm especially interested in visiting some framebuilders, such as Kalavinka or going to see keirin.
Thank you!

Hi Nick,

thanks for signing up and welcome aboard!

I have just found Kalavinka's website, it seems they are located in Meguro. Stay put, and we'll provide you with more info on keirin.
:)

How long are you going to stay in Tokyo?

Thank you, Thomas and Sora!
I will be in Japan from April 10th to the 19th.
I think we will be in Tokyo for the first couple of days.
Afterwards, I think we will be travelling around by train. Santa Cruz has a sister-city in Japan called Shingu, which is near Fukuoka. Also, my wife and I study aikido, so our sensei will be making introductions to the sensei of the dojo in Shingu, Kumano Juku Aikido.
I was not aware that introductions were so important in Japan. Would it be impolite to visit Kalavinka without introductions?
If so, can someone at Tokyo Cycling Club be willing to introduce me?
Thank you for all of your help and research!!
Please let me know if there is anything I can bring you from the states!

Best regards,
nick

Hi nick-san,

Do you and you wife study aikido? I am very surprised to hear that. I did it when I was a student. Shingu (Kumano) is not in Fukuoka, I think. It's in Mie. Check again, please.

I don't think so, but I will contact Kalavinka.:)

Sora-san,
You are correct. Shingu is in Mie. My wife and I are still beginners at aikido, however, we enjoy it very much. Our sensei recommended that we train at the dojo in Shingu, however, I'm a bit nervour as I've heard its very serious there.

Yes, Shingu is the holy place for Aikido, so it might be serious. I have never done aikido there, but it shall be great experience for you and your wife, I'm sure.:D

By the way, I received a e-mail from Kalavinka. They say:
- they wecome you!:welcome:
- it is a small shop, they worried about you might be unsatisfied. But they think you can enjoy.
- Sunday is closed.
- they are hard to speak English.:warau:
When you visit there, it may be smooth to say about TCC, to comunicate with them.

Sora-san,
Thank you very much for asking Kalavinka for a visit on my behalf. I look forward to visiting them. I am very excited to see the master craftsman. My wife and I will be staying in Tokyo for a couple of days, around April 11-13th. We are staying in a small place up near Tokyo University called Homeikan near the Suidobashi train station. It looks like we can take one subway from near Suidobashi all the way to Meguro.
If anyone has any suggestions for places to visit, we are happy to hear them!

Best Regards,
Nick
