Hi my name is Ray - I am planning on touring Japan and visiting Tokyo, and would like to have some contacts there. Also, I am trying to find some bike touring companies that have trips in Japan, but I have not been too successful, does anyone know of any? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Ray,

first of all welcome to the forum, it's good to have you on board! :greets:

I have never specifically heard of companies organising bike tours, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. Perhaps Sora-san has more info on that.

When do you plan to come to Japan? Also, which kind of tours are you interested in (location, distance, etc.) ?

Welcome! Ray,

This is Sora.
Now I'm searching bike tour companies in Japan.
As long as I know, domestic bike tour by companies are not so pupular.
But some companies do, like;

Touring Kyoto by Bicycle

If you have some place you want to go, please let me know. I will check there.

Hi Thomas - I am still in the exploratory phase of planning the trip, so I have not decided where exactly it would be nice to ride. I was initially hoping to find touring companies, and then deciding where to go based on the trips they have, but unfortunately, I have been having trouble finding ANY touring companies at all! Someone from a company e-mailed me saying that there was not much demand because people think of Japan as being very expensive and/or too industrial. In any case, do you have any recommendations? I have about 3, possibly 4 weeks (if I can convince my boss!) to tour. There is a club in Japan that has a web site with details on a trail that starts in the south, and ends up in Tokyo, about 1930 Kilometers long, but of course this would be too long for me to do in the time that I have. It occurred to me to do just part of it, but then the question is what would be the best section to tour. It is called the "Japan Cycling Navigator"; maybe your club would be interested in the information provided there. Have you done much cycling in Japan?

Hi - Thanks for the info. I take it that Kyoto is very interesting, I keep reading that it is one place that one most visit. Today I finally got one reply from a touring company in the UK! i have to see if what they offer is reasonable. I found another company in Australia, but they have not responded yet. Long ways to go to find info!! Have you done much touring in Japan? Where have you been, and what would you recommend? I am thinking of doing what in the travel industry is called "an open jaw", that is one lands in one city, and you return from another. So mayby I will go to Osaka and return from Tokyo, I am aiming for April to catch the cherry blossoms.

Sakura is certainly one of the most beautiful seasons in Japan!

Meanwhile, you should take a look at Sora-san's bike tours listed at e-Wadachi.com. You could try a combo of his routes based on whatever region you prefer.
