Hello everyone, it will be a while before I get to meet you all as I moving to Japan Spring next year, but looking forward to it already. Mainly using my bikes for commuting, cross country and an annual tour (usually in France) at the moment. Is XC possible in Japan? I grew up in Kanagawa during my teens and don't remember there being much countryside anywhere in Japan unless it was an officially designated picnic or beauty spot, and even out in the sticks most paths were concrete, anyone know if it is possible just to ride out and pick up a trail? I am less interested in the technical, freeride, downhill stuff but I'd love to do some XC and touring in Japan.

Welcome to the TCC, Aphex! :welcome:

Most of us ar roadies here, so I cannot help you with any info on XC or trails. Perhaps some other members are more knowledgeable. Anyhow, thanks for joining, hope to see you soon!

Hello Everyone, especially Sora San & Thomas

Sora San - I am Looking forward to touring coastal areas and seeing rural Japan. When I was growing up in Kawasaki I did the obligatory Nikko, Hakone, Kyoto & Nara, but the areas and sights that were really impressive for me were North Akita Coast and Mt Aso in Kita Kyushu. Also I really wanna see Hokkaido, Shodoshima, Shikoku and Okinawa. I guess that will be enough to be getting on with.

Better start getting fit for those Japanese mountains! (We only have small hills in England.)
