Hi All,
First time poster, first day joining and finding this amazing club/site. Thanks for having me! You can frequently find me 3-4 days per week doing the Arakawa trail (I live close to it) and cycle 30-50 km/per time south towards Shinagawa or north towards Saitama and back on a white Specialized Allez with Shimano 105s that I finally brought over to Japan last summer after being here wheel-less for 3 years. My dream is that my startup succeeds, I get enough $/yen to fund a couple of custom carbon and steel rides, learn Japanese past ordering in restaurants, find a cycling/beer club where we can cycle and then grab some craft beers (not sure where to store/what to do with the cycles), and live happily ever after.

If you're still listening, congrats/I'm sorry. See you out there.

Also if you have any advice on upgrades, would love to hear it! The DualAce set looks pretty amazing, but a bit out of my price range right now.

I'm also on the Arakawa a lot. I know a few good places to stop on the way:

VIA, it's a cycle cafe in Saitama, only open on weekends but there's another place next door that7s open in the week.https://goo.gl/maps/2rqxq3ThTncwJXSF6

Enomoto Bokujo, a dairy farm that sells fresh ice-cream from the farm. Great in the summer and very friendly to cyclists, also Saitama https://goo.gl/maps/feJ6Q9MoHiDjK5j88

Kitchen tore-tate, a food and drink stop you've probably already seen on the east bank in Adachi https://goo.gl/maps/SiJ2teyDQJsNn9Qo7

Wouldn't mind going for a ride together but I won't be around for much longer as I'm moving to China in the summer.

I'm moving to Zhengzhou in Henan province to work at the university there. It's a second tier city at best I think so not a whole load of international business going on.

Good luck. That's pretty far out there. If you're ever in Beijing, there's some cheap beer and great music in Sanlitun at Swing Bar. Air is horrible there though. There's also an amazing place in Shanghai actually started by one of Japan's top bartenders, Shingo Gokan, called Speak Low. He's now in Shibuya at S&G Club.

Welcome to the site, Matt. Sounds like a nice dream🙂 People from the club do organize rides on the Arakawa so you should keep an eye out on the Rides section of the website for when they come up. Hope to see you out and about sometime soon!
