2ヶ月もお休みにしてしまいゴメンナサイー! みなさんご参加くださいね。

#07.09/27/2009 SUN, GRAPE & SPA ROUTE20

Katsunuma Grapes and Sasago Touge

Lovely plan Kei ! I rode through Katsunuma just last Sunday...grapes were all over the place :)! Took a look at your ride plan and was a bit worried to see you intend to go thru Sasago Tunnel on the Koshu Kaido:eek:uch:... I strongly recommend - if I may ;) - to cross over the Sasago-toge pass (212) instead. Although this may take you an extra 1 hour, it is a very nice little mountain pass and so much safer than the Sasago Tunnel. The grapes will taste ever so better and the Hottarakashi onsen will feel ever so gokuraku !

Thanks TOM !

Hi TOM !
Thank you for advice.
I was anxious about Sasago-tunnel, too.
The reason for there is that it is a little dangerous.
However, it has not run in <212>.
It doesn't know what road it is.
The route was changed by recommending TOM.
URL was renewed.
We learnt a safe route thanks to TOM.
Let's run with TEAM OSOI some time.

Hello everyone.
Hajimemashite.
I intend to join the :bike:
It will be my first non solo side, so please be patient with me.
(My Japanese is also not very good)

Very nice... I rode in the hills of Yamanashi the other weekend and it is STUNNING. IF the group gets a chance, I recommend some of the roads in the hills of the valley (Rt 20 is pretty crowded). The quiet roads, wineries, peach farms, etc.. makes you feel like northern italy. Really special.

On the onsen, I recommend calling Hotarakashi to see if they cut back the grass/weeds right outside the rotenburo. When I was there a couple of weeks ago, the grass was so tall that you could not get a view of the valley from the lower (and bigger) bath.

If the grass is tall, I recommend puku puku onsen. Its right above the fruit park on the way to Hotarakashi. New, clean, place. Its an indoor facility, but views are fantastic and food is great.

BTW, the climb up to Fruit park and Hotarakashi is pretty intense. Some places are 14% + grade and its 500-600m of climbing. The view from top is definitely worth the work, but recommend people leave energy in the gas tank.

Kei,
You might want to consider running along route 30 rather than route 20 for part of your ride. It is parallel and just to the north, but is much quieter and has no traffic lights for a long stretch.
Sergey and I rode it last Sunday and really enjoyed it.

Great idea for a ride :) I rode through the vinyards of Yamanashi a couple of years ago thought it was a very beautiful area.
Cheers,
AW.

Hottarakashionsen!

Lovely plan!! I have been to Hottarakashi onsen for several times but have never had enough of the wonderful view from there :warau: Also of course fruits/wine are wonderful in Yamanashi :D

Very unfortunately I myself have got to skip this time as I will be in Honolulu for 'HCR' on Sept-27 though, I hope everyone will enjoy the ride and onsen alot.

See you next time Kei and all,
Juno

Hi trad !
Hi AlanW !

Thank you for advice.
These opinions are to lead us to happy Ryde.
The start is from the same place. However, it changes to route 30.
If it is not possible to climb OSOI in the steep slope, Hottarakashi-onsen will be made puku puku onsen.
A lot of TCC・Bikers knows this route.
And, it advises.
It is very important and glad for me.

@kei - Where's the route map gone? The link doesn't work any more.

I wanted to copy it to my GPS.

Thank you, Kei san

I missed Hottarakashi onsen, but fully enjoyed the quite fall mountain road. I really liked the climb to Sasago toge. Its surface is clean and the gradient is not too steep.

Also, Hwy30 was another finding. This was quite and nice.

Thank you again for organizing the tour.
