I just moved to Tokyo from NYC. I used to bike a lot about 7 years ago before I moved to NY. Looking to get a bike for around 200,000. I'll mostly be riding around town so should I really get a cross bike? Personally I like roadbike. I never intend to ride on the sidewalk.

I only shop here. About 25km NW of Tokyo center. Not near Shinagawa but I'll always plug my favorite shop.

They usually have some of last year's stock on hand going cheap.

I'm sure there are nice shops closer to you as well that other members will point out to you....

Good advice.

I ended up going to Okachimachi and then found Asazo (did check out all the other stores).

Ended up ordering a Kuota Kebel frame with full Campy Veloce/Vento. Will get it in about a week (I hope).

Wife is still not too happy about the purchase

I am going to start riding regularly after 7 years in NYC...so can't wait...

I bought my wife a special order TREK that has made her happy.... get a bike for your wife too...

My bike is ready and I will be picking it up tomorrow. Problem is I have no idea how to get the bike to my apt in Shinagawa. Anyone has any ideas about how to get from Asazo shop in Okachimachi to Shinagawa station (google map is in japanese and I can't get directions. I would love to ride, but is it possible to take the bike by JR train? Taxi will probably be too expensive :(

No idea how I'll bring the bike home tomorrow :(

Directions

Hi,
I sketched up the route for you:
http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Okachimachi-to-Shinagawa

It's straightforward. Route 437/14/403/409/15 You can use the railway track to orientate yourself. If you're really unsure of the way you can just follow the railway track on the small streets.

If you want to take your bike on the train you will need a bike bag (rinko bukero) which you can buy when you pick up your bike.

Good luck!

That worked perfectly--thanks.
