Help Getting stronger

I'm not sure that is winning! I, on the other hand, eat heaps of pizza and ramen, hamburgers and ice cream. White rice and potatoes and lots of pasta. No surgery drinks though, no alcohol. I was a vego for over 20years and now am on a 7 year rebound love affair with meat!

188cm 77kg. Peak fitness 75kg. I am actually healthier at my now weight, not as much fun in the mountains but I don't get sick as much as when i am in hammer mode.

The result 184cm / 64kg speaks for itself. #winning

Similar with me

- went to only eating McDonalds on non-ride days
- pizza as weekend recovery meals
- staying the hell away from fish as it the most poisonous shit you can eat.

Erm.

Similar diet to most--cut way back on red meat, switched from sandwiches, chips and café au lait lunches for vegies and fruit, from low fat milk to soy for breakfast cereal, smaller portions of meals, especially dinner, almost no white rice anymore--but all balanced by regular, consistent exercise/riding--not 3 or 5 days a week, but EVERY single day, with a modest daily minimum of 25 km, most weekends double or triple that--maybe in a month I might miss a day, at most two. If it is heavy rain, or if I get back from work too late, then it is on the indoor aerobike, a huge heavy cast off from the local training center, and/or my water rower--each session is followed by a 4 km brisk walk with my dog--lost more than 12 kg in 4 months, can pedal farther, faster, smoother as a result--no Strava, KOM or anything else other than discipline and determination--and a good night's sleep.

Of course--point well taken--I think this is simply an issue of what someone defines as "going in hard"--I am pretty sure I wouldn't characterize my daily loads in that category--keeping in mind my modest daily minimums (25 km), where the usual routine for those are moderate but not exhaustive or excessive (they have to be within reason, or I couldn't bring myself to do them daily), normally at a fairly high but comfortable cadence, interspersed with regular, consistent bursts of maximum output (for example one minute bursts at maximum cadence at five minute intervals), all a regime worked out by a heart specialist (as I had arrhythmia, with the emphasis on had!). While I would not suggest others following suit without checking a physical training specialist first, I am suggesting that a consistent daily exercise routine is a good thing. The body responds well to consistency--in diet, training, sleep cycles, and other related areas--this is just another suggestion in a long line here of the various approaches that one could take to achieve the goal of overall body fitness.

Is it actually possible to engineer a frame to support @saibot ? Did someone photoshop this frame?

I was expecting something like this:

Had a hard time catching up with anyone but feeling good going into the workday.

I didn't see you? Well I might have, I smiled at a few people but the gave me blank looks.. So I guess they weren't you!

I was wearing my hfc jersey today.

Anyway i'll be out there again next week. Hope to see you then.

Good day out today. Focused on upping my cadence.

Finished sadamine, the climb back from hana's and sadamine to shiraishi without getting off the bike.

Climbing speed still not there but one step a a time.

Nice seeing @macrophotofly and some other guys at hana's today.

Was that you I saw and spoke to briefly at Hana cafe?

Were you the one wearing the rapha jersey who was about to leave when we arrived?

If yes, then nice to meet you. I was once again wearing my hfc shirt.

Excellent. Job done! The climb from the top of Sadamine where the drinks machines are, to Shiraishi gets pretty steep at a couple of points, so well done on going the whole way, having previously not even managed to do Sadamine without getting off. That is a massive improvement.

Means bugger all today. Speed will come with time, and consistent effort.

1.5 cents.
Although my knees were shot decades ago...my strongest year of cycling was when I started training for the Tokyo marathon. Running uses different muscles but those muscles I developed running seemed to compliment my cycling. My legs became stronger overall. My fitness increased due to a different kind of stress placed on the heart while running. I lost more weight from running than I did from cycling.
I'm about to give my new 6 million dollar knee some running soon.
