I'm thinking about changing the drop bars on my Surly Cross Check to a straight or riser bar. It currently sports a nine-speed Tiagra drivetrain with bar-end shifters. Is there any reason why MTB shifters won't play nicely with the Tiagra derailleurs, or will I need to change them to match the shifters?

As always, thanks for your advice!

just make sure the mtb shifters are the same speed as the old ones and no probs.

I agree with Simon, if they have the same number of speeds, it should be just fine! :D

This is true for 9-speed (and fewer) Shimano systems. 10 speed uses a different cable pull ratio meaning road 10 speed is not interchangable with MTB 10-speed.

Thanks guys. It's a 9 speed cassette, so I should be fine. Thanks for confirming!
