Well, the wheel truing stand is being built....

Mostly done I guess, I need to fabricate the small metal bits that go on the uprights to hold the wheel, but the majority of the work is done!

Heck I think I'll even paint it

BTW, on this stand......

.... I like the tools platform to the rear, very cool, I'm going to copy this for sure!:D

I've got to pick up some hardware, a couple of knobs and some bolts that are a better length, and there is just a little bit of welding to do, as well as a couple more holes and a coat of paint, but......

The front wheel mounted, it is straight.

The rear wheel in place. There were two spots where the rim was out of whack by maybe 3mm, but after about 10 minutes of fiddling.....

...... real close all the way round, maybe not racing bike good, but streets of Tokyo hauling a trailer full of beer good for sure!

I'll post more when I have it cleaned up and all the extra bits on it, but right now, it works fine!

Cheers!

PS Thanks again Simon, your link got my mind going :D

Stu, awesome build done in the time that most would still be thinking of a materials list.
No time like the present :D

I got more done today.....

Sorry only crappy iPhone pics, but it is getting done more and more.
The truing pins are now pointy!

I need to get some knobs for it, or... turn some myself  :D

I've not attached the left side truing pin block yet, I don't know if it can be left in one place, or needs to be adjustable like the right side unit...?

Some paint and it should be done, works great too, but if I were to build it again, I would change a few things, I guess that is why prototyping exists

Well they need to work together so when you draw one in by 1mm the other side also moves in by 1 mm otherwise you will undish the wheel.

Well the pointy truing pins turn in or out, so would that count?

I decided not to wait and buy some plastic knobs, I just turned some.....

I don't know if I'll cut another groove and turn another knob to make the left hand truing post mount adjustable or not, I guess I should eh?

Now all it needs is some sharp corners knocked off and some paint! :)

Some more minor refinements.......

Just needs some paint!

The small orange wheels I tapped to the same 6mm thread, these then work to help keep the truing rods from moving about.

Works great, I got my front wheel very straight indeed! :D

I guess this is as done as it will ever get......

A couple of coats of Shellac on the stand, easier and quicker, not to mention less messy than rattle can paint.

Cheers!

Hello,
Do you have any scheme of this truing stand?
I'm going to build one so your measures would help me a lot.

thank you
Marinko from Zagreb, Croatia

Thats definitely racing bike good :)
You would be surprised how cobbled together some race bikes are.

Nice looking stand!

Let's start a campaign to get him back!
As Joe said, Stu knows his stuff when it comes to tools and machinery. Always ready to share his knowledge.
And leaving out his love of Rush Limbaugh, he's a super nice guy!
Come back Stu!

What's right with the fat hypocritical loudmouth cnut?
