So my g/f's birthday is coming up. and she really wants a road bike. I originally thought about converting her Giant Seek R3 but the geometry wont work me thinks. Shes not as serious a rider, and just wants the look of a road bike with none of the trimmings. Anyone have any ideas? The best I could come up with was a doppelganger but i thought I might be able to find an old school steel frame for her.

the trinity looks pretty good, the problem is she already has a cross bike and its the drops she wants. (she has a giant seek r3). i will check out the mini velos though, sounds promising

Spend 40,000yen on upgrades for the cross bike, including a set of drop bars. This will pay off much better in the long run.

If she feels the bike she already knows getting lighter and faster, it should inspire her more.

Was at Bic Shinjuku today - tons of bikes on sale. Some pretty nice road bikes under 60k/. All are aluminum with the usual suspect low end Shimano stuff. I'm kinda in with Owen on this - if the frame basically fits her, then spiffing it up with decent wheels and other bits is likely to have more direct performance gain than anything.

Cheers Tim.

For 32,852yen, you could get her the following upgrades, delivered for free;

http://www.wiggle.co.uk/fulcrum-racing-5-clincher-wheelset/

http://www.wiggle.co.uk/vittoria-rubino-clincher-tyre/ X2

http://www.wiggle.co.uk/deda-rhm02-white-road-handlebar/

http://www.wiggle.co.uk/deda-zero1-road-stem/

This will really enhance her riding experience, and makes a hell of a lot more sense than blowing 40,000 on something bottom of the range which will be worse performing than her Giant in its current form.

Sergey, thanks for the great info! Wow!!!!! :)
I was thinking about to buy some small bike and YES giant minivelo looks really great. I think I'm going for this model. ;)

*update,
I went to Y's event(massive sale?) and most of bike had a sticker says 'SOLD OUT'. (-_-;)....
Anyhow, I have seen the Giant idiom(Mini velo) series and it didn't look good like a home page's photo....sigh
