Hi there,

Next week I'm visiting Tokyo and am really looking forward to go for a bike ride in the hills.
I'm planning to take the train at Shinjuku-station and go west and to start my ride near Akishima.

As I'm not familiar with Chichibu-Tama-Kai National Park and the surrounding areas;
- Are the roads OK for road cycling?
- what routes (60-120km with 750-1500hm) are recommendable?
- any other tips I should be aware of?

Many thanks!!
Kind regards
Jeroen

Tomin-no-Mori is popular with road cyclists, though I've never been there myself. It's not so difficult to get to from Akishima as far as I can tell. They're proper mountain roads in that area (so prepare appropriately) and you can even climb above 1000m if you want. Enjoy your trip!

Btw, are you bringing your bike with you or are you going to rent something while you are here?

Roads in Japan are wonderful for road cycling.

You probably already know that you must have a special bag to take your bike on the train.

Have a look through these and see if something seems good to you...
