Hi,

Both seem to have a variety of entry classes. I especially wounder if it's by invitation only? Other Entry requirements? Minimum Team size? ... and
Are there other events like this in Asia?

Maybe time to send a TCC Team

Cheers,
Malte

Ive done both for the last couple of years.
And will probably be doing both this year too.
Both excellent events. T of M has a team TT so really you really need to be part of a team.

Nice.
Is the registration a no-brainer and done via email or do you need an invitation? Do you know how the CAT-A, CAT-B are defined, does it relate to UCI Amateur license?

The T oF M CatA and B are Philippine Cats based on previous races. All outside entries are put in Cat A.

The Tour of Friendship in Thailand is raced in Age categories.
With an open cat. Usually the open cat is actually slower. 40-50 being the fastest!

Are these the only stage races in Asia? Or, are there others?
+ Do these events take composite teams? I wouldn't mind riding, but I might find it difficult to pursuade my current team mates to take time off college or work to attend an event... Yes, it baffles me too!

Tim - I'm also interested in this - I can get us full comp for about 50,000 JPY for the Tour of Freindship so just need to cover flights.

I am doing the Tour of Friendship for the 2nd time this year. I highly recommend it. It requires no license to enter but is a supported stage race. The level is similar to the upper JCRC classes but without the big crowds and on public roads (not circuit courses). The average rider is on a $5,000-$6,000 bike.

NEILPRYDE (who I ride/work for) are one of the sponsors. I convinced them to fund a campaign where they will pay the full stage race (with hotel +food + transport within Thailand) entry fees in full for anyone who buys an NP bike by March 31st. (Contact me if you are interested in that deal.)
However, even if you guys who already have your race bike for 2012 want to join we can get a group discount by entering through NP. I am personally not on a team for the event yet and would love to have us TCC people ride together.

The full cost for airport pick up, hotels, meals, support is 15,000 baht so about ¥40,000!
The hotels and food is top notch. Considering the cost of entering some races in Japan, it's a bargain!

It would be golden week, do you guys have already flight tickets?
If yes how much did you pay and where did you search?

Hey Zenbiker - thanks for that, cheaper than I was quoted!

Golden week - I wonder if my parents would mind if Im not here :D

Depending on flight times and airport, Narita/Haneda you are looking at ¥78,000 to ¥120,00
I always find that the airlines online sites have the same or better prices than the bucket shops, AXross, HIT etc

I got my ANA ticket Haneda - Bangkok for ¥72,000 through Across No.1 travel (HIS). I'm going a week early (April 20) and returning on May 2 (night after the race). I wanted to use Thai Airlines or ANA because they don't charge extra for bikes if under 23kg. I think I got it last year with Thai Airlines for 78,000 but when I looked this year the prices were much higher through Thai Airlines.

See you there!
¥87,000 on Thai from Haneda on 26th night back on 4th.
I think baggage allowance has gone down to 20kg! But you always get a few kg before they start charging.

PS Mikey, Apr 20 to May 2 on ANA site is ¥69,960 ! The flight shops just seem to add on a booking fee. Wish I could go earlier. I remember the temperature difference was a bit of a shock last year.

And the pointy bits go up to 27 degrees on stage 3 this year!
It's not a race for fatties!
