What's new

Adventurous Cyclist " Pacific Coast Japan "

Hello everyone. Well, today I'm putting my plan together . I've had 2 unsuccessful attempts to make it to Hokkaido. Cape Soya was my destination.
So I'm back at it again. To be honest with you I pretty much was just going to wing it. Starting with Shikoku, then to Hiroshima and just follow the roads going north. But I've got some time now to hopefully put something more sure together.
I don't have a starting date yet, but would like to either go sometime in April or early May. And I'm going with the bare minimum this time. You saw my bike loaded and I actually reduced the load from my first attempt to Hokkaido. One thing that I'm sure I'll have to buy is a light weight sleeping bag for weather in Hokkaido.
I just hope this time Covid doesn't interfere . OK, that's my little update.
Not sure if I posted this, but this is my new tent. Much lighter and smaller then my old one.new tent 1.jpg

Great to hear, and the tent alone will reduce the weight to carry somewhat. Have messaged you about the t-shirt designs too with my email just in case, finally have some days off so hope to shoot some ideas your way soon. I am following this as well as its on my list to just jump on a bike and ride somewhere enjoy the sights, good local food.

A little update on this thread. I've decided to go first along the Sea of Japan side first up Aomori then Hokkaido. When returning then I'll do the Pacific Side. At the time of writing this I got my planning up to Toyama with a few campgrounds. Niigata, Yamagata,Akita and Aomori, still have to find free campgrounds. Well, also Hokkaido. Not sure what date I'll leave yet due to I waiting to hear from the US Embassy in Tokyo over some tax matters. I hope they hurry up.

Good luck on your journey up Honshu. Two things I learnt touring and camping by bike.
1) Start early, get to where you want to go, then take care of food, bike and camp. prepare for early start next day.
2) Have everything secure and nothing flapping on the bike.
3) People are friendly towards cyclists, ask when you are not sure.

i know that is three.
