last sunday's race was the last race of 2019
time to look back on the year
after a solid winter block of zwifting and weight training
I entered the season with confidence
TTs were the main focus again
march: TT Japan stage 1, 4th
2nd in 2018 by 2 seconds
I thought I'd done the work to step up in 2019
alas everyone was faster!
april: moiwa TT, 1st
1st in 2018, 1st again in 2019
a little slower
but the wind is always a factor
may: haruna TT, 4th
first time to race this course
the top 3 were all excellent time trialists
so 4th was okay
maybe I can go faster next year
june: uchinada TT, 1st
the big one
a prestigous TT
on the podium in the TTT before
but on a road bike I could never make an impact on the TT
no excuses on a TT bike
did the training
did the reconnaisance
rode it hard
won it!
july: niseko TT, 1st
big ones come in twos!
this was all about the UCI champions jersey
kept the form
did the training
did the homework
won it!
august: no races
back in the UK
I rode lots
all for fun
1st day back in Japan
I took my UK souvenirs to the bike shop
and walked out with a new CX bike...
but before hitting the dirt
I had 2 more TTs to train for
september: niigata 1 mile TT, 1st
it's amazing what you can do with no specific training
old school volume paid off!
october: japan masters TT
racing with the young kids in the open category
including Yamada san who I trained hard with every morning
in the race 2nd to an 18 year old pro back from a year racing in France!
a wonderful event, I hope to go back next year
november: nobeyama gravel race, 8th
first race on gravel
the course was a secret close up to race day
difficult to train specifically for it then
4th in the first stage
I got lost in the mud on the second!
great fun
I hope to try more gravel races next year
december: toyama CX, 3rd
my first CX race
still got lots to learn
but it was a good first effort
I'll do a few more CX races this winter
all in all a successful 2019
I enjoyed the training
I enjoyed the racing
time to start thinking about next year's racing calendar...
here we go!
If you want to know more about of any of these races, give me a shout.
Cheers, Andy
