Looking for a way to burn off all of the New Year's mochi? This is a winter race that I highly recommend, particularly for novices. I have participated in it for the last 2 years.

Details (in Japanese) can be found at the links below.

I will attend this race. Registration officially closes on December 7th.

Let me know if you are interested and I can help coordinate the entries.

I'm interested. Unless snowboarding season gets in the way, but should be able to make this date work.....

Motegi is cold now, January must be freezing!

I've done it for the past 4 years but sadly will be out of the country this time.
It is freezing!
I recommend large amounts of beer and pizza the night before!

Almost decided to return this year but things are looking busy around then. 2014, I hope!

Would love to do this, unfortunately I am out of the country then.

I just signed up for this, Men's D. Registration closes tomorrow.

Doug3 and I went out to this, pickup at 0430 in the morning. Bit rough. Got there relatively early, picked a spot in pit 43 at the end.

Did a warm up lap, fairly slow. Spent more time trying to see if the Garmin would do the Autolap function properly. Funny doing Motegi the wrong way, have spent some time on it on a motorbike going clockwise.

21 lap race for 100km was the goal. started at 0930. Quite cold, bit breezy as well, which wasn't great. I tried some deep rims for the first time, generally fine even with a stiff wind (it got a bit worse as the day went on), so happy with that.

Started off in the middle of the pack, freezing my off with all the other guys for about 25minutes. Eventually went off, race was paced for a lap or so. I just tried to find reasonable groups to try to keep up with. The main pack went by a few laps later, relatively quick, I needed to keep some strength I thought, so stuck with some slightly slower groups. The hill on the back straight isn't so bad.... the first few times. Then it sort of grinds on you. Knock the gears back, spin up, not fast but no drama. was a bit of a headwind going uphill as well. Then for the fast downhill thru the S-es was all headwing, so didn't get as much speed as expected.

I started feeling pretty good about 2 hours in and tried latching on to faster guys. Stayed with the main pack for a couple of laps, but struggled to keep pace uphill and lost them.

After cruising past Doug on his cool down lap, I tried picking it up and went mostly solo for my last 3 laps. Fun race, I enjoyed it. I think I need to hit the hill harder and 'recover' later to keep a decent pace.

Finished 43rd in my age group, out of I think 99 or so people. Few DNFs, several DNS. My time was 3 hours 22 mins, well within the 4 hour cut-off. would have liked to have been closer to 3 hours, but hey, 2nd race for me, will need to get my overweight weekend warrior butt in shape!

Doug3 did well, taking 5th in his class! nice one.

Ha, cool!

Did you not start to hallucinate after riding round and round the same track for so long? :)

Well done, Doug and Colin. I always love to see the podium pictures!
